Dr Rawlings joined Breakthrough Breast Cancer in 2002 after obtaining a Ph.D. from Birmingham University and working in breast cancer research at UCL in London.
Her team informs Breakthrough's campaigning and influencing work, fundraising initiatives and media activities. This has included spearheading the development of a unique website and information for women with familial breast cancer, producing breast cancer risk factor fact-sheets and informing Breakthrough's Left in the Dark campaign, which successfully secured a Labour Party General Election commitment in 2005 that by 2008 all women referred by their GP with breast problems will see a specialist within two weeks.
Dr Rawlings acts as a media spokesperson for Breakthrough and appears regularly on national media commenting on breaking breast cancer news and issues. She has also been nominated as a patient expert on a number of drugs currently being appraised by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.
